Over $4.4 million approved for Muhlenberg, Christian and Hopkins

FRANKFORT, KY (10/11/11) – A state legislative committee today approved over $4.46 million in agreements for public service agencies or projects in the tri-county area, including $4.06 million in federal funds for nutritional services in the Pennyrile, Green River and Purchase regions.

State Rep. Brent Yonts, D-Greenville, a member and former co-chair of the state legislative Government Contract Review Committee that approved the funding, said $4,065,495 million in federal funds were approved for nutrition education services to be administered by Pennyrile Allied Community Services in Hopkinsville in the service regions.

“The funding will help the agency assist food stamp families, single parents, teen parents, children, elderly, homeless, disabled persons and those with limited English proficiency in the service areas,” said Yonts. “In these depressed economic times, this funding is necessary and welcome.”

Also approved by the committee was: $170,000 in coal severance funds for sewer line replacement and improvements in Drakesboro in Muhlenberg County; an additional $150,000 in federal funds for Christian County Board of Education out-of-school programs; $25,000 in state tobacco funds for the Hopkinsville Human Rights Commission’s early childhood education programs, and; an additional $50,000 in coal severance funds for the City of Dawson Springs to construct a new city building.
